As with human hospitals, we sometimes need donor blood to help animals undergoing surgery or those with medical conditions. If you have a healthy dog and would like to help other sick animals, please contact the hospital.

Before their first blood donation your dog will receive a clinical examination and blood test (all free of charge) ensuring they are healthy and able to provide a blood donation. Your dog will need to stay at the hospital for a few hours. It helps if they are friendly and calm but it is a fairly quick and easy procedure.

If you would like your dog to become a life saver. Please ensure they comply to the following criteria:

• Are 25kg or over
• Have not been abroad
• Have not received a blood transfusion
• Are fully vaccinated
