Spaying and Neutering for Cats

We strongly advise that all cats not intended for breeding should be neutered from approximately four months of age. Both surgeries are considered relatively safe, routine and painless. Usually, the cat is up and about at home within a day of their operation.

Advantages:

  • Cats can live a longer and healthier life due to a marked decrease in many medical problems such as mammary cancers and uterine infections
  • Neutering a male before he reaches puberty almost always prevents the development of mating behavior including spraying urine and marking territory with urine
  • Less tendency for spayed or neutered cats to ‘spray’ indoors or damage household furnishings
  • Increased safety as spayed and neutered cats are less likely to want to roam the streets outside in search of a mate
  • No unwanted kittens
