Feeding Your Cat
We recommend the use of commercially prepared complete diets (wet or dry). A well balanced diet is especially important during the growing phase. Many of the big brand names (Eukanuba, Hills and Whiskas to name but a few) produce good diets for cats at all life stages with adapted formulas for kittens and senior (elderly) cats.
Mineral and vitamin supplements are never necessary and can be harmful. Avoid home made diets as these are expensive, time consuming and rarely nutritionally sound. Water should be available at all times (although cats in particular do not like to eat and drink in the same location, so ensure you place water away from their food).
Indoor cats naturally require less calorie intake than those venturing outdoors, and most cat food will give detailed information on how much to feed for which type. Wet and dry food diets can be combined, and cat food packaging will also tell you the correct amount to feed per cat daily.
There is no harm in the occasional treat as long as you don’t let your cat become overweight. Visit our weight loss page to find out how to manage overweight cats, or contact us for more information.
